It was recently confirmed that rideshare companies such as Uber will soon be able to operate in the Barossa Valley alongside existing taxi services.
This comes on the back of nearly 3000 people responding to my survey on this issue, and local businesses showing their support - many have talked about how it will help their business, customers, employees and tourists.
The results of the survey were clear with 95 per cent supporting rideshare in the Barossa, and after some initial resistance from the government, the wheels of change are now in motion to allow it to happen.
I thank all those who completed my survey and showed their support, because it’s helped pave the way for this change. A change which will not only benefit the Barossa Valley with increased transport options to complement what is already on offer, but all regions across South Australia.
We know that rideshare services and taxis already operate side by side and co-exist around the world - including in metropolitan Adelaide, Gawler, Mount Barker, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills for a number of years.
As I’ve always maintained, if there's no demand for rideshare then there won't be a business, but the changes coming into effect will give our community and visitors more choice on how to travel.
There are still a few things needed before we see it in action, but in due course, rideshare WILL be able to operate in the Barossa Valley.
