Last year the Opposition backed in calls from families, neurosurgeons and researchers for the State Government to fund a specialist Brain Cancer Nurse.
For too long, we’ve been the only state in the nation without such a dedicated coordinator – someone whose primary role is to help patients and their families navigate the often challenging and complex journey of being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
In some good news, I'm glad to report that the government has heeded the call for the creation of this role.
Those afflicted, and their families and friends, should not lose precious time wading through the maze of government bureaucracy, nor should they be left without expert assistance to help them navigate the time-consuming and stressful decision-making processes.
We hope that this role will go some way to help ease some of the burden once they have received such a life-changing diagnosis.
