I’m pleased to report that the Liberal Party’s legislation to ban unsightly election posters during state election campaigns has finally passed the State Parliament.
These new laws mean that posters lining the streets of our community on Stobie poles and other public property will be a thing of the past - with only limited exemptions for areas near polling booths on state election day.
Posters are expensive, can be a road safety hazard, and frankly they’re bad for the environment. That’s why we’ve tried for a long time to ban them.
Unfortunately it’s been a long road with the Labor Party actually voting against our legislation on many, many occasions both in government and in opposition, but ultimately we’ve now got it across the line.
