Nuri footy club leads charge on concussion conversation

Concussion in sport is a huge topic at the moment at both the elite and grassroots sporting levels.

“Concussion in sport isn’t something which just happens at the elite level – it also occurs across grassroots sport, including in our own community, and the impact is real,” Mrs Hurn said.

“We want to keep our community active and people in sport - and looking at these types of initiatives is a solid and proactive step.

“It’s great to see the work that Nuriootpa footy club and Barossa Physiotherapy are doing, and together they’re leading the charge at a grassroots level on concussion management.

“Implementing this type of baseline testing comes at a significant cost, and for many clubs that’s a major barrier to rolling it out - I know it was a big decision for Nuri.

“That’s why I’ve written to the state government asking if funding support is available for clubs, associations or peak bodies to potentially assist those who want to do this type of testing.”
