Overwhelming response to Christmas appeal

Published on 20 December 2023

For the second year in a row, Member for Schubert Mrs Ashton Hurn MP registered her office to be a drop-off point for the Salvation Army Christmas Gift Drive.

Every 17 seconds, someone comes to The Salvation Army for help, and Christmas is recognised as their busiest time of the year.

Mrs Hurn said the Salvation Army has been running an annual gift drive and delivering to those in need in our community for over 20 years.

“The generosity shown by community members who have given a gift for the appeal this year is overwhelming," she said.

“Our foyer was literally overflowing with gifts at a time where everyone is feeling the pinch with their own household budgets.

“Locals have dug deep, and it will mean people who are struggling at this time of year will be able to receive a gift. I’ve seen other causes across the region also receive strong support as well, whether it is food or financial donations.

“From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every person who contributed - I know the generosity is going to put a smile on the faces of literally hundreds of people this Christmas.”
