News that the government has instigated a review of the Gumeracha District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital’s nurse-led after hours clinic has caused some concerns in our local community.
I wanted to let you know that I have written to the Minister for Health about the review and highlighted that our community needs and deserves access to health services as close to home as possible.
Losing the operation of the clinic would be a step backward for health care in the region, and that’s why I’ve urged the Minister, and the BHFLHN, to consider all avenues for its continued operation.
The clinic provides access to urgent, non-emergency care locally, with support in place for virtual medical support should it be required, giving some peace of mind that support is available for our community.
Longer term, attracting and retaining frontline health workers is critical if reopening the Emergency Department can be an option into the future, which is why the Opposition will continue to push for competitive incentives.
Rest assured I’ll keep pushing for better health services for our community and will continue to monitor this situation closely.
